Under the concept of blending borders and crossing
boundaries, Jose Duque's ZumbaTres is back with a new
album, where their subtle combination of French
Impressionism and the rhythmic flare of South American
Culture takes a sharper turn. Rooting the music in
the essence of jazz, the new album, led by
Venezuelan-born drummer, Jose Duque, offers an
invigorating new sound that blends odd meter time
signatures with their Latin influenced rhythms.
Offering 7 new compositions, “Far Away” also features
3 bonus tracks recorded live at the Press Room in the
Spring of 2006.

“Far Away” represents all those things we hold dear,
homeland, friends, family, favorite places, cities,
poems and lost love. Since their last CD in 2002,
ZumbaTres has reformed to include the most sought
after musicians on the seacoast; Dan Sure on piano,
Nate Therrien on bass, Phil Sargent on guitar and a
special guest appearance by Annegret Baier on
percussion. The synergy of the band was inspirational
in creating new tunes and for the more organic, fluid
sound to their music.

Jose Duque's ZumbaTres, has been nominated twice for
the Spotlight Awards(Portsmouth Herald) in the jazz
category. The band has performed in numerous venues
around the seacoast and New England, has been featured
in February 2006 edition of the nationally distributed
drum magazine “Modern Drummer” and received acclaimed
jazz reviews in Miami, and Latin American jazz
circles. An advanced copy of “Far Away” will be
available for sale the night of the concert and will

Six new studio tracks cement his love for Latin and Venezuelan grooves and blend them impeccably with his equally powerful influences stemming from Bill Bruford, Pat Metheny and other jazz legends. Three live tracks recorded earlier this year wrap up the album in style leaving you with a fun flavor in the mouth and itching for getting up and dancing. "When Jose told me that his latest production is about to be released, I asked him if is as good as "Gathering in blue" and he answered "Is BETTER".

Now that I heard "Far Away" for the 6th time in 6 hours, I couldn't agree more; I called him to congrat the band for that fine work and to told him that he surely is a good teacher: the musicians play like latinos...! An excellent ensamble of rhythms and sounds.
